The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai. Members will celebrate the Fourth of July with outdoor activities.

Nahale honored at luncheon
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee will honor Officer Wyattlane Nahale as its “officer of the month” at noon July 9 for his outstanding performance as a member of the Hawaii Police Department.
Guest speaker will be Franz Weber, director of Visitor Aloha Service Hawaii.
The public is invited to attend the luncheons normally held on the first Wednesday of each month. The cost of the luncheon is $20, all inclusive at Huggo’s Restaurant. Reservations are required and may be made by contacting Liz Holey at lholey@hawaii.rr.com or 443-7708 by July 7.
Music reading and writing workshop offered
The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and Sing Like a Star Vocal Studio are offering a music reading and writing workshop from 7 to 8 p.m. July 7 through 10 at the church campus, 77-165 Lako St., Kailua-Kona.
“An Introduction to Learning the Language of Music” is designed to introduce beginners to basic music reading and writing, including note recognition, timing, basic keys and some elementary musical notation. Francine Alexander will teach the class. Lessons are geared for young adults and older. There is no set fee but donations will be accepted.

Free parenting class offered
Kamalama, a 10-week parenting education course offered by the Neighborhood Place of Kona, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays from July 8 to Sept. 9.
Classes focus on the principle that parents or caregivers are their children’s first teachers, and emphasize the important responsibility of teaching and role-modeling proper values and behaviors. A certificate of completion is awarded to those who attend and participate in each class. There is no cost to attend.
